태국식물- 노니(Noni), 기적의 열매, 다양한 용도로 사용되는 약용식물
노니는 인도네시아,태국등 동남아가 원산지로 정확한 학명은 Morinda citrifolia 이다. Morinda bracteata Roxb., Morinda litoralis Blanco 등으로 불리우기도 한다. 한국에서 노니는 꼭두서니과, 노니속에 속하는 상록관목으로 부르는 명칭이 다양하다. 수입상, 판매상들은 인도뽕나무, 바지티안, 진통제나무, 치즈과일등으로도 부르기도 한다. 중국에서는 한약인 파극천과 닮았다고 해서 해파극천(海巴戟天) 또는 격수(檄樹)라고 한다.
노니 열매는 여러 개의 작은 열매로 이루어져 있으며 하나의 열매를 이루고 있는 수많은 작은 열매에는 씨앗이 1개씩 들어 있다.
한국의 한의학 교과서, "식품공전"과 같은 학술서적에서는 노니로 부르고 있다.
노니의 성장
노니는 태국,말레이시아,인도네시아, 베트남, 괌, 아프리카, 서인도 제도등 열대해안지대에서 자생한다. 푸른 잎을 가지고 있으며 키가 6미터까지 자란다. 자그마한 흰색 꽃을 일년 동안에 여러번 피운다. 그리고 10센티미터 정도의 울퉁불퉁하고 패인 자국이 있는 열매를 맺으며, 열매가 익으면 황백색의 껍질이 얇아져 투명할 정도로 된다. 이 시기가 되면 무미하던 열매살이 불쾌한 맛을 내게 되고 썩은 치즈와 같은 고약한 냄새가 풍겨온다. 노니를 치즈과일로 불리우는 이유가 바로 이 치즈같은 고약한 냄새를 갖고 있기 때문이다.
노니의 용도
태국이나 말레이시아에서는 열매를 커리요리에 사용하기도 하고, 잎을 채소로 해서 요리에 사용한다. 인도네시아에서는 열매를 주스로 만들어 마시기도 한다. 태국에서는 최근 노니열매를 끓인 후 주스로 만들어 판매하기도 한다.
노니의 효능
노니의 효능은 다양하다. 흔히 만병통치약이라 불리운다. 항암성분, 혈당강하 작용이 있어 당뇨병 치료제로 서용되며, 염증 억제 효능이 있어 관절염에도 좋다고 알려져 있다. 콜레스테롤 수치를 낮추는 효능이 있어 동맥경화에도 좋다. 그외 알레르기,비염, 수면장애, 호흡장애, 상기능장애개선, 우울증등에도 좋은 효과를 내고 있는 것으로 밝혀지고 있다.
